You can also write your motto on a bathroom mirror, on your kitchen or home office window or somewhere you’ll see it every day. Consider the ways an effective personal motto can make your life better than ever: It reminds you of the person you want to be. It reminds you of the qualities you want to develop or strengthen in yourself.

That’s normal. Your life circumstances change, or you grow as a person, and then you’ll abandon old mottos for new ones. Sometimes, you might even drop a motto, but come back to it years later. It’s all part of the process. The best mottos combine timeless wisdom, with a clear sense of where to direct your efforts and how to look at life.

As an example, my current motto is courage and compassion, which I feel is quite noble, and can encompass a wide range of life scenarios and experiences. If you’d like to come up with your own motto, think about which theme/subject means the most to you at this point in your life.
